king of pop

Okay, i know what you're thinking... this can't really be about THAT guy. But it is! I've been withholding this blogpost for a few months, but I have to confess... My boys are crazy for Michael Jackson. A few months ago Kyle put on an MJ cd in his truck and now whenever we get in the truck they beg to listen to it. It's Zach's fault, he was the first to love it. He asked for "the CD where he is bad?" It took me a few minutes to figure out which one he meant. But I started to laugh when I realized what he wanted. Now he always asks for it. I could hear Kade singing "Beat it, just beat it" while he was in the bathroom today.
Zach's favorites are "Beat it" and Jackson 5's "ABC". Kade loves "Number 8" otherwise known as "Thriller". And he knows a frightening amout of the lyrics.

After much debate, we let the boys see some of the music videos, because the music's not quite as good without the fancy footwork. The stipulation: they had to be pre 90's before all the grabbing and plastic surgery. Just black skin, white socks, and the moonwalk, of course.

On Sunday Zach's church shoes were too small and we pulled out a hand-me-down pair of shiny, black penny loafers from cousin Jake. Zach was thrilled when Kyle told him "Those are just like Michael Jackson wears." And I was mortified when I had to explain what Zach was talking about when he told the same thing to his nursery leaders. Awesome.

So now the natural progression in a house full of boys... While I was out of town Kyle let the boys watch the Weird Al spoof videos of "Eat it" and "I'm Fat". Nice, really nice. So now Zach sings "Have some more chicken, have some more rice, just EAT IT!"

So anyway, a strange education is taking place at our house. If you need further proof enjoy the following clip of Kade. He got a kazoo from the library's summer reading program and I caught him humming? kazooing? "Thriller" followed, of course, by "Shake your Booty". The following clip is a repeat performance of "Thriller", at my request, in which he includes the very long, spooky intro. Strange indeed. (If you suffer from motion sickness, BEWARE- Sam was attacking the camera while I was filming.)

Ha! That is hilarious. Kade's kazoo version is so impressive!
