Brotherly Love

The boys were having another difficult day getting along and Kyle told the boys, "Some day you'll be best friends." To which I muttered, "... Or maybe not." And Kyle countered with, "If they are like your family they probably will be."

He's right. My siblings are some of my best friends. I talk to my sisters who live hours and miles away almost daily (we'd talk daily if we didn't have kids- but if we weren't home with piles of kids we wouldn't need the daily talk!?) My neices and nephews are also my boys favorite friends.

My siblings and I haven't always gotten along, and we don't always see eye to eye- but we enjoy each other and we try to get along. It helps that we are adults now. And it REALLY helps that we no longer live in the same house.

But I have to tell a funny story about my brother Jon. At the start of the summer Jon was coming through town and stayed at our house with a couple of his kiddos. We hadn't yet started turning on our A/C, and I know Jon likes it really cold, and I wanted to be a good hostess (which isn't really my thing- my older sister is the hostess with mostest, but that's another story)- so before we all went to bed I closed up all the windows and cranked up the A/C, and threw another blanket on my bed so I could keep warm. Later the next day as I was puttering around the house, I noticed I had failed to OPEN the vents in the room Jon had slept in. Sorry bro! He was so nice not to say anything, and I felt so bad. He admitted he'd been sweating all night. I admitted I'd been freezing in my room. Poor guy. But we try our best to get along, and isn't that what being in a family is all about?
